Teaching at the University of Washington
Soon after I came to Seattle in November I met visual artist Susie Lee (http://www.susiejlee.com) and she invited me to collaborate in teaching a photography class at the University of Washington.
I was very excited about the project especially because the idea was to combine and research elements of tap dance and photography that both art forms have in common. We discussed different physical and musical exercises that could work together and lead the students to new ideas in their art making and we developed different ideas around time, timing, movement and space.
Last Monday classes started and it was quite fun. We started off using exercises that I often use with my dance company to create an awareness of space, rhythm and time and that helps your mind connecting with each other and your environment. It was was great doing this not with dancers but photography students. We later combined these exercises with image making.
The class will continue for a few weeks and it's gonna be very interesting to see where this will lead.
Here are a few photos from our experiment....

Two days ago I arrived in Seattle. I will be here for next couple of month spending time with my girlfriend, dancing and photographing a lot. I am living in a nice apartment in West Seattle overlooking the water. I took these photos this morning going for an early walk and recovering from jet lag.
All pictures are taken with the Fuji X-Pro 1 and converted using Silver Efex 2

In other words
"I am three". This is how Charles Mingus fabulous autobiography "Beneath the underdog" begins.
It is an amazing text and in my last production "DRAMA - love songs and other jazz" we choreographed and expressed the text through the dance. There were different stages how the dance and text worked together and in this short clip you can see the combination of tap and a visual projection of the text.
The dancers are Laura Mogalle, Thomas Kolczewski und myself.
Enjoy....

Portraits of the week
Last week Markus Voigt, a good friend of mine and great musician asked me to photograph a few portraits of his for his website. I gladly did so and we had a nice session in a theater on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. Here are three shots that I really like.
I did the all photographs with the Fuji X-Pro 1 and the 18 and 35mm lenses. It was my first portrait session with those cams and again I really liked it. I only worked with available light and it was quite dim at the theater. But the X-Pro is just perfect for those conditions.
Enjoy.....
